Delete your account.
Last updated · 8 August 2026
You can delete your TapGate account yourself, from inside the app, without asking us. This page explains where the button is, exactly what disappears, what survives and why, and what to do if you no longer have the app installed.
Delete it from the app
- Open TapGate and go to the Settings tab.
- Tap Account.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm. Your account and everything attached to it is removed immediately, and every key you have issued stops working.
Takes about a minute. You'll be asked to confirm — there is no undo.
If you no longer have the app
Email privacy@tapgate.app from the address on your account, or tell us the phone number you signed up with. We'll verify that it's your account before we delete anything, then delete it and confirm by reply. We answer within 30 days, and usually within a working day.
Email privacy@tapgate.appWhat gets deleted
Your account itself: the phone number you sign in with, your recovery email if you set one, and your display name.
Every gate pairing and membership you hold — the gates you own, and the gates someone else shared with you.
Every key you hold, and every key you have issued to someone else. Issued keys are revoked as part of the deletion, so a key you sent to a cleaner or a guest stops opening the gate.
Your push notification tokens, so your phone stops receiving anything from us.
Your guest lists, events, and invitations, along with the recipient phone numbers stored on them.
Your gate pages: the photo you uploaded, the welcome text, the colours, the resident directory entries, and the access codes and nicknames you configured.
The gate's saved coordinates, if you pinned a gate location.
All of it happens in one transaction. There is no partial state where some of your data is gone and the rest lingers.
What survives, and why
Entries in a gate's activity log survive — but with you detached from them. Your identity is set to null on every entry, so a gate keeps a truthful record that it was opened at a particular time while keeping nothing that identifies you.
This is deliberate, and it is the one thing deletion does not erase. A shared gate's log is the other owners' record of who came through their own property. An entry that any past member could quietly remove would be worth nothing to them. So the event stays and your name does not.
Invoices, if you ever bought hardware from us, are kept for 10 years. French accounting law requires it and we cannot waive it.
Support emails you sent us are kept for 2 years unless you ask us to delete them too — say so in the same email and we will.
How long it takes
The deletion itself is immediate. The moment you confirm, your account is gone from our live systems and your keys stop working.
Encrypted backups are the exception, and they are the reason we say 30 days rather than instantly. Backups roll on a 30-day cycle; your data ages out of them within that window and is never restored into the live system.
If you deleted your account by mistake, we cannot recover it. Sign up again with the same phone number and you will get a new, empty account — the gates and keys are not coming back, and someone will need to share them with you again.
If deletion is blocked
One case can refuse: an installer account with installations still recorded against it. Those records belong to the property owners, not to the installer, and they cannot be orphaned without breaking someone else's warranty history.
If you hit this, the app will say so and point you here. Email privacy@tapgate.app and we will move the installation records to another installer and then delete your account.
Your other rights
Deletion is one of several rights you have under GDPR. You can also ask for a copy of everything we hold about you, correct it, restrict how we use it, object to it, or take it elsewhere. Email privacy@tapgate.app.
If you were a visitor rather than an account holder — you rang someone's intercom, or opened a gate from a link, and never signed up — you have the same rights over what that produced. Tell us roughly when and which gate, and we'll find it and delete it.
